Abstract:By releasing a variety of toxins and invasive enzymes, Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) attached to the intestinal epithelium triggers receptors on intestinal target cells and activates intracellular signalling pathways, resulting in intestinal inflammation and immunological responses.
