Tangerang District is a suburban area located around DKI Jakarta that has undergone significant development, resulting changes in natural resources. Rice fields are one of the natural resources in agriculture. The conversion of rice field areas into another land uses can indirectly cause several problems, such as food scarcity. The study aims to identify changes in the rice fields area of Tangerang District, using Landsat 8 imagery with supervised classification method. Based on the research findings, the rice fields in Tangerang District have transformed into residential areas, industrial zones, open fields, bodies of water, plantations, and green open spaces. The rice field area decreases every year. The conversion of rice fields into open land is the most dominant change due to the increasing demand for land for industrial and residential purposes in Tangerang District. The rice fields are drained before being converted into residential and industrial areas to compact the soil, ensuring it does not pose a threat to the construction on the land. The continuous and uncontrolled reduction in rice field areas can have an impact on food scarcity in Tangerang District.

Based on data from the Semarang City Fire Department in 2013-2016, 1028 fire incidents took place in Semarang City. This incidence reached its highest in 2015 with 399 cases of fire which caused material losses of up to IDR 398.3 billion. Based on these figures, Semarang City possesses the highest incidence rate of fire cases in Central Java Province. However, studies on the risk and mitigation of fire hazard disasters in Semarang City still need to be carried out. This study aims to identify fire risks, to mitigate the disaster’s hazards in Semarang City, and to provide recommendations for arranging relevant buildings and the environment. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, in which interviews are conducted with key persons, with the utilization of GIS analysis to assess the risk of fire. The results of this study exhibit that in Semarang City, 14 villages have a high level of fire hazard risk, one of which is Rejosari Village which has the highest level of fire risk. This occurred mainly because historically, there have been many fire incidents in this area and even claiming several lives. The density of buildings and the difficulty of access further increase vulnerability in the case of fire. Nevertheless, the inhabitants still lack an understanding of this hazard. Accordingly, the fundamental mitigation to be carried out in Rejosari Village is to increase community comprehension and to consider the addition of fire protection and safety facilities, including hydrants, in densely populated buildings and areas, in order to reduce the risk of fire hazards.

The recent rise in fire incidents in Anambra State has resulted in displacement, stress, psychological, adverse effect on the lives of its inhabitants and a devastating consequence on the economy. The objectives of the study include examining the estimated value of properties loss due to fire outbreak within the study period and to employ the Random Forest regression model to predict the estimated losses associated with fire disasters in Anambra State. The data for the study was a secondary data obtained from the records Department of the Anambra State Fire Service, Headquarters Awka. The study used the Random Forest regression method to analyze the data obtained in this study. The Random Forest regression analysis was employed to predict the estimated value of properties loss (EVPL) due to fire outbreak. The explanatory variables used for the prediction of the response variable were Number of victims (NV), Percentage of Plain Land (PL), Population Size (PS), Population Density (PD) and Actual Revenue by LGA (ARLGA). The findings of the study revealed that EVPL has a higher Skewness and Kurtosis followed by NV and the least was found to be PL. Further result revealed that the percentage of variance explained was 12.03%, sum of square error (SSE) was 31.41, root mean square error (RMSE) was 0.7236 while the R-square was 59.18%. This result implies that the model was moderately positively adequate since it recorded a positive coefficient of determination. The findings from the variable importance analysis showed that Population Density played a major role in the estimation of the response variable followed by the number of victims while population size was found to be the least important variable for estimating the response variable.
