Analysis of integrins and vascular endothelial growth factor isoforms mRNA expression in the canine uterus during perimplantation period

Abstract: Integrins are the major receptors within the extracellular matrix (ECM) that mediate several functions connected with cell life and metabolism, such as cell adhesion, migration, cytoskeletal organization, proliferation, survival, and differentiation. A vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most important angiogenic factors. It has been suggested that the expression of this gene may play crucial physiological roles in reproductive organs. All investigated endometrial tissues were isolated on da… Show more

“…Recently (Kowalewski et al 2011a), we have speculated that PRL acting through endo-and/or paracrine mechanisms might be involved in endometrial glandular secretory function in the dog. Furthermore, Bukowska et al (2011) reported an increased expression of ITGA2B, ITGB2, and ITGB3 and of VEGF -165, -182, and -188 in the uterus of earlypregnant bitches.…”

“…The only available data indicate an upregulated messenger expression encoding for integrins-α2b, −β2, and −β3, as well as higher uterine activity of matrix metalloproteinases, especially MMP2, in response to free-fl oating embryos (Beceriklisoy et al 2007 ;Bukowska et al 2011 ). The signifi cantly elevated activity of uterine MMPs positively correlates with the activity of both MMP2 and MMP9 in blood serum, which is higher than in nonpregnant animals (Schafer-Somi et al 2005 ).…”

“…Interestingly, this was in contrast to the signifi cantly increased expression of extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) and decreased expression of fi bronectin 1 (FN1) in embryo-exposed uteri(own data, unpublished). Moreover, as a part of induced structural remodeling, increased uterine vascularization was indicated by elevated expression of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) −165, −182, and −188 and one of its receptors, particularly VEGFR-2 (Bukowska et al 2011 ;Schafer-Somi et al 2013 ).…”

“…Ekspresja badanych genów wzrastała w pierwszej fazie procesu implantacji, co może być związane z indukcją szczególnych mechanizmów odpowiedzialnych za receptywność macicy podczas adhezji zarodków (5). Podobne wyniki uzyskano u królika i świni, zwięk-szoną ekspresję czynnika VEGF-A oraz jego receptora w endometrium odnotowano w okresie implantacyjnym.…”
