Analysis of luteinizing hormone (LH): Validation of a commercial ELISA kit for LH analysis and quantification in doping control samples

Abstract: Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a dimeric glycoprotein produced and secreted by the pituitary gland, with a molecular weight of approximately 30 000 Da. The main clinical use for exogenous LH-administration is typically linked to the treatment of infertility, in both men and women. The desired effect of LH misuse in sport is due to the enhancement of testicular production of testosterone. Elevated LH levels may also indicate the usage of gonadotropin-releasing factors or estrogen blockers. Therefore, LH is listed … Show more

“…Determination of serum levels of LH and FSH was performed by validated immunoassays using Immulite 1000 kits. 9,10 The samples were analyzed over the calibration range of 0.186 to 35.1 ng/mL for LH and 0.352 to 96.8 ng/mL for FSH (see Table 2 for details).…”

“…Reproductive endocrinology disorder occurs when there are abnormal changes in hypothalamus–pituitary gonadal axis, and leads to various gynecological‐related problems, which include virilization, infertility, and hirsutism 3–5 . Luteinizing hormone (LH) is an interstitial cell‐stimulating hormone, which helps reproductive system, in particular for men's testes and women's ovaries 6 . LH is made by pituitary gland; it is a critical enzyme for synthesizing the mature oocytes and for the downstream regulation of synthesizing sex steroid hormone.…”

“…[3][4][5] Luteinizing hormone (LH) is an interstitial cell-stimulating hormone, which helps reproductive system, in particular for men's testes and women's ovaries. 6 LH is made by pituitary gland; it is a critical enzyme for synthesizing the mature oocytes and for the downstream regulation of synthesizing sex steroid hormone. The secretion of LH is highly correlated with hypothalamic dysfunction, resulting in various reproductive disorders, such as hypothalamic amenorrhea and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).…”
