Analysis of Phosphorus-containing Amino Acid-type Herbicides by Capillary Electrophoresis/Mass Spectrometry Using a Chemically Modified Capillary Having Amino Groups

Abstract: We describe a simple and practical method for the analysis of phosphorus-containing amino acid-type herbicides and their decomposition products without derivatization by capillary electrophoresis/mass spectrometry using a chemically modified capillary having amino groups. The compounds were glyphosate (GLYP), glufosinate (GLUF), bialaphos (BIAL), aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) and 3-methylphosphinicopropionic acid (MPPA). AMPA and MPPA are the decomposition products of GLYP and GLUF, respectively. The optim… Show more

“…Microscale solid phase extraction on alumina-coated iron oxide nanoparticles [71] was applied for GLYP and AMPA detection with a total analysis time less than 1 h (including sample pretreatment, SPE, and CE-ECL analysis). LODs for GLYP and AMPA, in water were 0.3 μg/L and 30 μg/L; in guava fruit extracts GLYP was detected only (LOD: 10 μg/1000 g).…”

“…5 potentials of liquid microjets of aqueous NaI solutions using a chemically-modified fused silica capillary (GL Science FunCap-CE/Type A). 6,7 This capillary has an amino group chemically bonded to a silanol (SiOH) group on a fused silica surface, so that · surf þ · ad is always positive at pH ¼7 regardless of the concentration of NaI. After confirmation of the relation between μ and · surf þ · ad , we present a model that explains the reversal of a surface potential of a liquid microjet with the concentration of Na…”

“…4 Subsequently, we developed a CE/electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (CE/ESI-MS) method using a chemically modified capillary under acidic conditions for a rapid and reproducible analysis of these herbicides. 5 In this report, we describe a sheathless CE/ESI-MS method using a high sensitivity porous sprayer (HSPS) for the forensic analysis of phosphorus-containing amino acid-type herbicides and we compare the results with those obtained with CE/ESI-MS using a sheath liquid.…”
