Analysis of rate constants for oxygen-iodine active media

Abstract

Chem.&Mech.To work out specific laser system, to optimise their operating conditions it is necessary to have a complete description of the kinetic processes in active media and exact values of the reactions rate constants. The detailed study of process kinetics in COIL were discussed at a number of papers and a review on the rate constants at oxygen-iodine media was prepared and published in Russian language. The present article is a short variant of this review.The general scheme of iodine and oxygen exited levels population is determined by reactions of energy pooling, quenching and chemical reactions with atomic and molecular iodine.The basic process which determine the COIL function principle is the energy transfer reaction from metastable oxygen to metastable atomic iodine: 02 (a'L\g) + I('P312) > O2(b3g) + I('P112 ) + AE1 400 K (1) The generation occurs on spin-orbital atomic iodine transition i(1P112) I(1p312) with the wavelength X =1,31 5 mkm. O2(b1Eg) S generated by the energy pooling reactions: 02 (a'Ag) + 02 (a'g) -> O2(b1g) + 02(b3Zg) + LtE2 3800 K (2) 02 (a'g) + I('P112 ) -> O2(b1Eg) + I(1P312) + AE3 3400 K (3) Energy losses occur in quenching of electronically exited species.
