Analysis of Stress–Strain State in a Steel Pipe Strengthened With a Composite Wrap

Abstract: In this paper, strengthening of a steel pipe with a composite wrap is analyzed. An analytical model taking into account joint reaction of the pipe and the wrap, two-dimensional stress state and plastic strains in the pipe wall is developed. Verification of the model is performed by comparison of the numerical results to the full-scale test results for a strengthened pipe under the action of internal pressure. The developed model is applied to the analysis of a buried gas pipeline subjected to the internal pres… Show more

“…Chemical compositions of S355 steel and the main temperature‐dependent property are illustrated in Table 2 in consideration of the von Mises yield criterion and isotropic hardening. The physical performances of metal materials change nonlinearly with temperature, such as thermal conductivity, density, heat capacity, elastic modulus, and yield strength 75–78 Set two analysis steps, in turn, that is, heat‐transfer and mechanical stress procedures with birth–death element technology for generating actual‐close simulation results.…”

“…Based on the theory of small elastoplastic deformations, 26 the expressions of the relationship between the stress and the strain components in longitudinal and circumferential directions are as followswhere ε1s, ε2s, σm,εmep, σi, and εi are the longitudinal elastoplastic strain, the tangential elastoplastic strain, the mean stress, the mean elastoplastic normal strain, the normal stress intensity, and the normal strain intensity, respectively. Also, σm, σi, and εmep are formulated as follows…”

“…It is estimated that σ1w < 0.005 σ1s and σ1w < 0.05 σ2w. 26 As a result, reasonably, we neglect σ1w to achieve a more convenient presentation for the failure pressure. Under the condition σ1w=0, equation (11) becomeswhere assuming that DmsDi, the parameter η=Di/4ts is defined.…”
