Analysis of the Air Quality and the Effect of Governance Policies in China’s Pearl River Delta, 2015–2018

Abstract: The evaluation of China’s air pollution and the effectiveness of its governance policies is currently a topic of general concern in the academic community. We have improved the traditional evaluation method to construct a comprehensive air quality assessment model based on China’s major air pollutants. Using the daily air pollutant data of 2015–2018, we calculated and analyzed the monthly air quality of nine cities in the Pearl River Delta of China, and conducted a comparative study on the effect of the air po… Show more

“…In the field of public health sustainable development, scholars are increasingly concerned with how to ensure patients can quickly obtain the desired high-quality health services in the context of the general rise in medical expenditures [24][25][26][27]. Therefore, the hierarchical medical policy of a national or regional medical service system is now a hot topic in academic circles [28][29][30][31][32].…”

“…It is not advisable to pursue economic growth but ignore environmental conservation, which violates the intention of sustainable development [52,53]. Based on the existing research of the academic community [44][45][46][47] and the recent severe air pollution and water pollution in China [54,55], we selected carbon dioxide emission, sulfur dioxide emission, nitrogen oxides emission, and fume and dust emission to characterize the atmospheric environmental sustainability, and selected waste water discharge to reflect the water environmental sustainability of each province. Moreover, the volume of garbage innocuous disposal was also selected to reflect the sustainability [57].…”

“…Empirical orthogonal function (EOF) is a data reduction analysis method for spatio-temporal data [29][30][31], the principle of which is to decompose the original data observed n times by m variables into the product of time function and characteristic function according to the principle of variance maximization, thus reflecting the changes of the original data objectively and quantitatively:…”
