“…Toilet facilities have been recognized in Nigerian hostels as a key consideration by estate managers and users (see Tijani, 2007; Ojogwu and Alutu, 2009). It was the only facility examined by Ojogwu and Alutu (2009), while Tijani (2007) focused more on the provision of infrastructure services within hostels in the University of Lagos.…”

“…There is no much work done on measuring students' satisfaction with their housing units provided by the school as suggested by Amole (2009a, b) in his work, this research work therefore intends to fill the gap created by previous researchers as it looks into the hostel accommodation in a polytechnic environment since the polytechnic educational system is quite different from the university system as there is normally a break in between the study after the National Diploma (ND) before the students return for the Higher National Diploma (HND). In the Nigerian context, studies have been carried out by Amole (2009a, b) where residential satisfaction was measured based on the levels of environment, Adewunmi et al (2011) looked at Post Occupancy evaluation while Ojogwu and Alutu (2009) considered the students learning environment and criteria considered for allocating hostel to students. In all these, only Amole (2009a, b) considered the students feelings as they stay in the on campus housing.…”

“…In the same vein, Lawanson and Gede (2011) postulated the types of facilities the school needs which includes instructional, recreational, residential and generalpurpose. Fabiyi and Uzoka (2007), Ojogwu and Alutu (2009) and Olatunji (2013) alluded that for proper teaching and learning to take place, there must be adequate infrastructure and in many tertiary institutions in Nigeria, the facilities provided for most departments are grossly inadequate for lectures or practical's, some lecturers have no offices, the classroom spaces are small and do not permit meaningful interaction between the teachers and the students which makes the academic environment unhealthy, with decayed, dysfunctional, and dilapidated infrastructural facilities. In this regard, when facilities are provided to meet relative needs of a school system, students will not only have access to the reference materials mentioned by the teacher, but individual students will also learn at their own paces (Ajayi and Ogunyemi, 1990;Ajayi, 2007;Okebukola, 2002;Adeyemo, 2010;Babatope, 2010).…”
