Analysis of the MAT1-2-1 gene of Colletotrichum lindemuthianumThese idiomorphs have been named MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 (Turgeon and Yoder 2000). MAT1-1 contains an ORF that encodes a protein with an α-box domain, and in some genera additional ORFs are also found. The MAT1-2 idiomorph normally contains a unique ORF that invariably encodes a protein with a highly conserved HMG (high mobility group) domain.Heterothallic ascomycete strains carry either MAT1-1 or MAT1-2 and are sexually compatible when in contact with strains of the opposite mating type.
