Analysis of the pharmacological mechanism of Banxia Xiexin decoction in treating depression and ulcerative colitis based on a biological network module

Abstract: Background The network pharmacology method was used to predict the active components of Banxia Xiexin decoction, its targets and the key signalling pathways that are activated in the treatment of depression and ulcerative colitis to explore the common mechanism. Methods The active components and targets of Banxia Xiexin decoction were obtained by searching the ETCM,TCMSP and TCMIP database. The disease targets of depression and ulcerative colitis were obtained by combining the following the DisGeNET, OMIM,Dru… Show more

“…In recent years, more and more experiments have con rmed that JTW can not only improve the quality of sleep, but also has the dual effects of hypoglycemic and antidepressant [40][41][42]. In the traditional theories of TCM, different diseases may have similar etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, and disease location during the occurrence and development, so that different diseases can be cured with the same prescription, which fully re ects the advantages of TCM in syndrome differentiation, holistic treatment and comprehensive treatment [43]. Our study is to explore the targets and mechanisms of the dual effects of JTW through the novel analysis method called network pharmacology.…”

“…In recent years, more and more experiments have confirmed that JTW can not only improve the quality of sleep, but also has the dual effects of hypoglycemic and antidepressant (Hu et al 2013 ; Dong et al 2013 ; Jiao et al 2021 ). In the traditional theories of TCM, different diseases may have similar etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, and disease location during the occurrence and development, so that different diseases can be cured with the same prescription, which fully reflects the advantages of TCM in syndrome differentiation, holistic treatment and comprehensive treatment (Yu et al 2020 ). Our study is to evaluate the dual therapeutic effects of JTW, and to explore the potential mechanisms via network pharmacology.…”

“…The complex composition and multiple action patterns of TCM make it hard to understand its detailed therapeutic mechanisms at the molecular level [ 33 ]. Network pharmacology, a new systems approach for exploring new active ingredients and potential action mechanisms for TCM preparations [ 34 ], has been widely used in pharmacological research of TCM against UC [ 35 – 38 ]. Using this method, 9 core ingredient and 45 related key targets were identified, and quercetin, wogonin and baicalein were found to be probably the key active compounds of SHD in UC therapy.…”
