Although uneven regional development has long been an issue in Java, most parts of the territory experienced an increased level of development over the last two decades. Due to the variance in local background and spatial heterogeneity, the driving factors of the development level should, theoretically, vary over space. Therefore, in this study, we aim to investigate the local factors that influence the development level of Java’s regions. We used the spatiotemporal pattern analysis, ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, and geographically weighted regression (GWR), utilizing the regional development index as the predicted variable, and the social level, economy, infrastructure, land use, and environmental barriers as predictors. As per our results, it was found that the level of development in Java has improved over the past two decades. Metropolitan areas continued to lead this improvement. All the predictors that we examined significantly affected regional development. However, the spatial pattern of the local regression coefficients of Human Development Index (HDI), landslide, paddy conversion, and crime shifted due to changes in the spatial concentration of development activities.

Bojonegoro is a regency in East Java province with a population of 1,322,474 (BPS, 2022) and high population density. Population growth is strong, and demand for land is increasing. Increased human activity leads to land conversion, which could impact regional development. The objectives of this study are to: 1) Analyze the dynamics of land cover change, 2) Compare the SDI (Sub-district Development Index) scores of 2008 and 2020 in Bojonegoro Regency, and 3) Analyze the factors affecting the level of Regional development in Bojonegoro Regency. The methods used are overlay (GIS analysis), scale plot analysis, and geographically weighted regression (GWR) analysis. The most significant land cover change occurred in forest cover, with the area decreasing from 99,815 hectares (2000) to 84,845 hectares (2020), while the built-up area increased from 12,665 hectares (2000) to 22,901 hectares ( 2020). Bojonegoro sub-district has the highest SDI of 44,043 (2008) and 44,917 (2020) because it has the largest population and become a capital district and central business district (CBD). Based on the results of the GWR analysis, the highest local R2 is located in the eastern part of the Regency. In contrast, the lowest local R2 is located in the western administrative district of Bojonegoro Regency. The results show that the driving forces influencing regional development in Bojonegoro Regency vary spatially.

The decentralization of Indonesia allowed the development in the regency level to improve to the highest level. However, the impact can only be maximized by utilizing the potential economy embodied in the regent. This study investigates the development of the Pasaman Regency by analyzing the potential sector and the stage development of the sector. Therefore, this study uses mixed research methods with explorative approaches and uses Contribution Sectors Analysis, Location Quotient Analysis model, Shift Share Analysis model, and Klassen typological analysis model, The data used is the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Pasaman Regency and West Sumatra Province in the period 2010 until 2019 and data on the production of the Pasaman Regency base sector in each district in 2015-2019. The result showed that the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors have the largest contribution to the GRDP of Pasaman Regency which is 55.51%, then the sector that belongs to the base sector with the value of LQ>1, namely the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors. The sectors that experienced a net change or shift and had a positive value and the highest level of excellence were the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors of 10,718,410,000. Klassen Typology Analysis is based on the base sector, namely the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors with the largest contribution to the fisheries sector so that the grouping of regions using fisheries data with the results of Panti and South Rao Districts is classified as advanced areas and Lubuk Sikaping and Mapat Tunggul Selatan districts are classified as lagging areas. There is a shift in territory caused by land transfer, changes in the profession, and accessibility. The development of district areas in Pasaman Regency through the fishery sector in the form of fish cultivation, fish feed factories, and fish processing industries is expected to improve the welfare of the community, especially sub-districts that are not classified as developed areas so that the trickle-down effect and the realization of equitable distribution
