Analysis of the Transition Time From Air to Oxy-Combustion

Abstract: In this paper some issues of the transition process from air-to oxy-combustion were investigated. Advantages of flexible combustion were described. Flexible combustion tests carried out at four European plants and five plants outside Europe of different scales of process and test parameters were presented. An analysis of the transition time from air to oxy-combustion of different laboratory and pilot scale processes was carried out. The "first-order + dead time" approach was used as a model to describe transit… Show more

“…The oxyfuel combustion in a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) was verified using theoretical complete combustion methodology introduced above. Verifying the hydrodynamic characteristics of the BFB involves computing the minimum fluidization velocity, using the Ergun equation and the terminal velocity of the particles [7]. The fuel used for the computations is lignite coal.…”

“…Other important projects are flexiburn facilities, which are able to operate under oxy-combustion and air combustion mode. They have been proposed by Foster Wheeler and by researchers from the Czestochowa University of Technology [7]. A few investigations have been made in the field of bubbling fluidized bed combustion (BFBC), which is more suitable for lower power capacities.…”

“…The plant enables evaluation of CO 2 removal from flue gas, process gas, or mixtures of technical gases. It is capable of processing flue gases and flammable gases from other systems installed in this facility, being the largest Polish research center dedicated for the development of clean coal technologies . An overview of the PDU is provided in Fig.…”
