“…Since joining the World Trade Organization, China's chemical industry has become an important support for the country's urban economic development; it has not only ensured rapid growth of the regional economy but also created increasingly prominent ecological and environmental contradictions and security risks [4,[15][16][17]. Chemical hazards have become an important global issue; for example, 169 chemical accidents have been recorded in France from 1974 to 2014 [18]. Chemical accidents are particularly prominent in China, such as the "3.21" chemical explosion in Xiangshui County, Jiangsu Province, which caused 78 deaths and 1.986 billion yuan in economic losses [14].…”

“…While no human casualties were reported in Pasir Gudang, the Bhopal disaster had resulted in a loss of 10,000 lives within a few days of the occurrence [ 87 ]. Another example of a chemical incident that affected respiratory health occurred in 2013 when an ammonia leak incident was reported from a chemical plant located in Rouen, northwest France [ 88 , 89 ]. This chemical leak recorded no fatalities; however, the released chemical had wafted across the English Channel into England, resulting in a transboundary pollution in England.…”

“…To help the operators, we proposed an approach to find explicit relationships between the reactor outputs (e.g., reaction temperature, concentration, yield...) and the inlet parameters. As mentioned by Dakkoune et al (Dakkoune et al, 2019, the risk of thermal runaway is important in French and also in other European chemical industries, and the operator error is an important cause. Thus, the use of such an approach could improve the understanding of the processes and avoid risky situations.…”
