Analysis of vibration band gaps in an Euler–Bernoulli beam with periodic arrays of meander-shaped beams

Abstract: In this study, an Euler–Bernoulli beam carrying periodic arrays of meander-shaped beams is introduced. Each meander-shaped beam consists of several connected beam elements. Two models with different number of beam elements are considered. In each model, the effects of geometrical parameters on the lower and upper edges of the first three band gaps are investigated using the Adomian decomposition method. Results show that the wide band gaps at low frequency ranges can be obtained by changing the geometrical par… Show more

“…As the elastic wave propagation in the periodic structures, the frequency band gap feature can be produced (Guo and Sheng, 2018;Hajhosseini and Ebrahimi, 2019;Huang et al, 2017;Li et al, 2019;Zuo et al, 2016). In the band gap frequency range, the elastic waves are forbidden to transmit through the whole periodic structures and can attenuate quickly near the disturbance sources (Ren et al, 2020;Wang et al, 2019;Ying and Ni, 2018).…”

“…Besides the mentioned methods, other methods such as the Adomian decomposition (Hajhosseini and Ebrahimi, 2019), the transfer matrix (Guo et al, 2018), the lumped-mass (Wang et al, 2004), the plane wave expansion (Wang et al, 2019), the lattice dynamics (Chang et al, 2018), the multiple scattering (Psarobas et al, 2000), the wave finite element (Nobrega et al, 2016), and the finite-difference time-domain methods (Sun and Wu, 2007) were also used to study the vibration bandgap properties of different periodic structures. Each method has some advantages and some disadvantages.…”
