Analysis of WiMAX Physical Layer using Spatial Diversity

Abstract: IEEE 802.16 standard for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) and its associated industry consortium, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) forum promise to offer high data rate over large areas to a large number of users where broadband is unavailable. The emergence of WiMAX has attracted significant interests from all the fields of wireless communications. WiMAX-MIMO systems which are created under different fading channels can be implemented to get the benefits of both WiMAX and MIMO systems. T… Show more

“…The null, pilot, and data carriers are included in OFDM symbols: Data carriers are used for data transmission. To estimate the channel, the receiver uses the phase and amplitude of the pilot carriers, which are known to it. Null carriers are used to prevent energy from leaking into adjacent channels [4].…”

“…When compared to basic WiMAX, MIMO systems in WiMAX have superior BER performance [8]. Multiple signals of the same kind are sent out using a diversity approach, and the finest of the received signals is chosen using space-time block codes [4].These methods are utilized to lessen the effects of multipath fading and enhance transmission reliability without reducing bandwidth or adding extra power. When several pathways are used to connect the transmitter and receiver antennas, the BER of the communication system is increased.…”

“…In order to provide customers with high-speed broadband internet access, WiMAX-MIMO systems were developed. These systems incorporate the benefits that are associated with WiMAX technology and MIMO systems [13]. The goal of this research is to obtain diversity gain by combining WiMAX technology with the spatial diversity approach used in MIMO systems.…”
