Analytical and finite element modeling of a machining system to minimize inaccuracy in milling and using rapid prototyping for die manufacturing

Abstract: The quality of this reproduction is dependent upon the quality of the copy submitted. Broken or indistinct print, colored or poor quality illustrations and photographs, print bleedthrough, substandard margins, and improper alignment can adversely affect reproduction. In the unlikely event that the author did not send UMI a complete manuscript and there are missing pages, these will be noted. Also, if unauthorized copyright material had to be removed, a note will indicate the deletion. Oversize materials (e.g.,… Show more

“…Printing on a 3D-printer can be used as a technology for manufacturing plastic dies, which significantly changes the traditional process of preparing sheet forming production. The achievements of 3D-printing in metal working are not so wide, but one of the first successful applications in the manufacture of forming tool was achieved more than 20 years ago [4]. The role of additive technologies is an important and promising part of product design and production using metalworking technologies [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Achievements of 3D printing in metal forming are not so wide, but one of the first positive applications in the dies manufacturing was done more than 20 years ago [2]. The role of 3D printers is also significant and promising part of the design and implementation of production with technologies of metal forming [3].…”

“…It was observed that the results match fairly well. The software FEMLD was further improved by modeling curved die surface and an attempt was made to simulate problem of external inversion of circular tube specimen [12]. The same code was further modified to simulate the nosing of circular tube specimen.…”
