Analytical and Numerical Solutions to Selected Research Problems in Geomechanics and Geohydraulics

Abstract: Geomechanical and geohydraulic engineering is a promising study area with several emerging research concerns. Most of such problems requires advanced level of mathematics to arrive at specific solutions. A wide range of approaches includes several analytical and numerical techniques for better understanding of such problems. In this paper, a few selected research problems are identified, and their solution techniques are demonstrated. The specific areas relevant to such problems are soil-structure interaction,… Show more

“…The influence of different mineral composition on the test results was largely dependent on the appropriate correlations relevant to the rates of dissolution of minerals and the fluid absorption, which included specific quantifications of various parameters such as chemical affinity, specific surface area, activation energy, viscosity, porosity, etc. Based on these quantifications, the effects of different sand with diverse mineralogical compositions on the current test results could be estimated [39][40][41][42]. ferent mineral composition on the test results was largely dependent on the appropriate correlations relevant to the rates of dissolution of minerals and the fluid absorption, which included specific quantifications of various parameters such as chemical affinity, specific surface area, activation energy, viscosity, porosity, etc.…”

“…Commencing from theoretical analyses [12][13][14][15][16], laboratory studies [1,[17][18][19][20][21][22][23], and field-based investigations [24][25][26][27][28][29], the subject has undergone significant advancements. Several contributions to coastal groundwater management [5,[30][31][32][33][34] are worthy of note as well. Although the alteration in geotechnical and geo-hydraulic properties of aquifer materials due to prolonged saltwater intrusion affects the flow characteristics, thereby influencing coastal groundwater management and modelling significantly, the investigations to cover this study area have been rather limited [35].…”
