Analytical modelling of in situ layer-wise defect detection in 3D-printed parts: additive manufacturing

Abstract: This study analyses a software algorithm developed on MATLAB, which can be used to examine fused filament fabrication-based 3D printed materials for porosity and other defects that might affect the mechanical property of the final component under manufacture or the general aesthetic quality of a product. An in-depth literature review into the 3D printed materials reveals a rapidly increasing trend in its application in the industrial sector. Hence the quality of manufactured products cannot be compromised. Des… Show more

“…The total porosity of the scaffold is obtained according to Equation (2). The relative density can be calculated by dividing the thickness of the material of theoretical appearance, Equation where ρthe 1310 kg/m3 is the theoretical density of PEEK., R. is the apparent density obtained by the Kimedes method [37][38][39]. [identified the rest of parameters here]…”

“…This aspect of the study defines the dynamics of each portion of the system mathematically. Here, each component that makes the design are related to other components using model equations and established mathematical constants and equations [22,26]. The following below were the relevant design equations used for the study.…”

“…The sum of the natural factors associated with the recovery of natural tissues and the series of mechanical events that modulate their biophysical formation and adaptation are mechanobiology [19][20][21]. Some materials show up as plastic strings or filaments during printing, released from a twist and dealt with through an ejection ramble.…”
