“…Proximate analyses of the experimental diets were performed following the AOAC procedures (Helrich 1990) as follows: moisture was determined by oven drying at 105ºC for 24 h; crude protein (Nitrogen * 6.25) was determined by micro-Kjeldahl digestion; total lipid was determined by extracting the residue with 40-60ºC petroleum ether for 7-8 h in a Soxhlet apparatus and ash was determined by ignition at 550ºC in a Muffle furnace to a constant weight. Concentration of Co in the tissues, and Cr in the diets and faeces were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (Varian Spectra AA240) located in the Saha and Gilbreath (1991), Kaviraj and Ghosal (1998), and Guhathakurta and Kaviraj (2000). Water quality parameters in the experimental tanks were checked following standard procedures of APHA (Anonymous 1995).…”

“…During days 15 -16, the pigs were surgically fitted with a distal ileal cannula according to previously established procedures (14) . Following a post-surgical recovery period (days [17][18][19][20], the pigs resumed their previous feeding schedule for the duration of the experiment. On days 30 -34 of the experiment, distal ileal effluent samples were collected according to the procedures outlined later.…”

“…Analyses for DM were carried out according to procedures of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC, 1993). Chromium III oxide was determined according to Saha and Gilbreath (1981) by using an atomic absorption spectrometer (SpectrAA-10/20, Varian, Mulgrave, Australia). Intrinsic phytase activity and phytate P content were analysed according to the method of Shen et al (2005).…”
