Analytical solution for seismic response of deep tunnels covered by an isolation layer subjected to SH waves

Haitao Yu,
Gong Chen

Abstract: The paper presented a novel analytical solution to evaluate the seismic‐induced stresses and displacements of tunnels covered by an isolation coating layer subjected to SH waves. The solution is derived based on the assumptions that the ground, isolation coating layer, and liner are linear elastic and in steady‐state motion. The analytical solution is obtained using the Bessel‐Fourier series. Comparisons are made between the seismic responses of tunnels obtained using the proposed analytical solution and those… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6] During the service life, underground structures are subject to deformation due to the disturbance of adjacent soils which is induced by a series of factors, such as tunneling excavation, pit excavation, and earthquakes. [7][8][9][10][11] As one of the major focuses of lifeline projects, buried pipeline is an inseparable part of modern industrial production and people's daily lives. Growing demand for resources has promoted the development and construction of long-distance buried pipeline projects.…”

“…With the acceleration of urbanization, the development and utilization of underground space has received more attention from researchers 1–6 . During the service life, underground structures are subject to deformation due to the disturbance of adjacent soils which is induced by a series of factors, such as tunneling excavation, pit excavation, and earthquakes 7–11 . As one of the major focuses of lifeline projects, buried pipeline is an inseparable part of modern industrial production and people's daily lives.…”
