Abstract: Background: Major transnational tobacco companies (TTCs) have identified Nigeria, the seventh most populous country in the world, as a market with a significant revenue potential, given its high youth population and growing gross domestic product (GDP). “…First, smoking initiation often occurs during this period and is likely to lead to tobacco addiction, resulting in a longer duration of lifetime use of cigarettes and subsequently considerable health effects (National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (US) Office on Smoking and Health 2012).
