Analyzing disposition strategies in reverse supply chains: fuzzy TOPSIS approach

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the product disposition strategies in reverse supply chains and to develop a framework to prioritize these strategies for effective reverse supply chain implementation. Design/methodology/approach The disposition strategies, based on the literature review, were selected, and the fuzzy TOPSIS methodology had been applied for the prioritization of these disposition strategies. A case of cell phone manufacturing firm is discussed for the illustration and validatio… Show more

“…Qian et al [22] emphasize the importance of research about sustainable transport systems from a strategic and implementation point of view. The strategic approach must include guidelines for long-term development [23] and model elaboration [24], while the operational approach should be focused on the implementation basis. Such an approach has been carried out by Sislian et al [25] by analyzing interrelated theoretical concepts of port sustainability and practical ones of ocean carrier network problem in order to develop a wider conceptual framework for sustainability in the maritime industry.…”

“…However, in its final cycle, it is disposed of in landfill. It should be pointed out that product disposal in landfill or incineration should be avoided, since regulatory restrictions usually discourage companies from doing that (Singh and Agrawal, 2018).…”

“…In the literature on the sustainable supply chain, Blengini and Shields (2010) focused on the building materials supply chains and investigated the suitability, feasibility, appropriateness, effectiveness, completeness and redundancy of some of the most common sustainability reporting tools such as Sustainability Reporting (SR). Singh and Agrawal (2018) investigated the product placement strategy in the reverse supply chain and developed a framework to prioritize these strategies for effective reverse supply chain implementation using fuzzy TOPSIS approach. Mohanty (2018) modeled the enablers of integrated supply chain by incorporating sustainability, thereby aiming to construct its theory.…”
