Analyzing the advance reservation of lightpaths in lambda-grids

Abstract: The scheme of advance reservations in dynamically provisioned optical networks is novel, and there are no gridbased applications designed to utilize this scheme. We formally define and analyze this scheme and present a constrained mathematical model for advance reservations. We also introduce FONTS -the Flexible Optical Network Traffic Simulator, a tool for simulating advance reservation, ondemand, and periodic data transfer requests. FONTS is based on a stochastic model and incorporates a variety of variables… Show more

“…The squeeze phase rewards the early bird with an opportunity to get higher bandwidth allocation in each time slot that it targets, and hence finish earlier. This encourages users to make reservations earlier, which can in turn lead to a better exploitation of resources, as shown in [9,10].…”

“…Using the model that is presented in literature [11] about rejecting probability and reservation probability, rejecting probability for a time-window is defined as the accepted reservation ones' proportion in all calling requests. According to the description, t i Q denotes reserving the t th window request total number arriving at the i th time window.…”

“…Applications like lambda grid and virtual private optical networks usually need many high-speed lightpaths for connecting computer servers in diverse enterprise campuses. A major feature of such applications is that traffic demands are requested to the network in advance before the connections are set up [1][2][3][4].…”
