Analyzing the effect of inoculant addition on the solidification of ductile cast irons using thermal analysis

Abstract: Purpose The final properties of ductile iron are decided by the inoculant processing while pouring the melt. The shape and size of nodules generated during solidification are of paramount importance in solidification of ductile cast iron. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of different inoculant addition on the solidification of ductile cast iron melt through thermal analysis. Design/methodology/approach Thermal analysis has recently grown as a tool for modeling the solidification behavior of… Show more

“…Research reveals that similar chemical composition of alloys, magnesium treatment and inoculation techniques produce a variety of metallurgical characteristics, including nodule count, shrinkage appearance and carbide production (Bhat et al ., 2018; Gutiérrez et al ., 2017). Such experimental variations have typically been attributed to significant variation in the solidification of molten iron that result from several processing parameters, including the charge materials, magnesium treatment techniques and the inoculation method (Sangame et al ., 2022). Because it is obscure how all these factors affect the solidification process of ductile cast iron, numerous studies using various techniques have been published with this goal (Soivio and Elmquist, 2013; Ghassemali et al ., 2018).…”
