Analyzing the reliability of communication between software entities using a 3D visualization of clustered graphs

Abstract: Modern software systems are typically composed of a large number of components, and more and more functionality is realized through the communication between these components. In this paper, we present an approach that enables assessing the reliability of the components and the communication between them. A protocol for testing the communication is presented and applied to several systems. After the execution of this protocol, an error rate is known for each component and each communication link of the system.… Show more

“…PVaniM-GTW extended PVaniM by providing refined views to middleware level, called the visualization of Parallel Discrete Events Simulation (PDES). Works from other groups were carried out long after PVaniM and PVaniM-GTW, on communications between parallel processes and data storage servers [19][20][21][22] and intermodule communications [23] such as client server relationships. Their work goes much deeper and aims at more specific problems in cluster computing environment.…”

“…The communications between parallel processes and data storage servers have been researched through the analysis of access patterns [29,39,40]. Communication between software modules, such as clientserver relationships, has also been analyzed through the use of graph-based visualizations [41]. These visual approaches are effective at analyzing network traffic, but do not provide insight into computation efficiency in a massively parallel computation environment.…”
