Anatomical correlates of quality of life: Evidence from voxel‐based morphometry

Abstract: Quality of life (QOL) has been defined in many ways, and these definitions usually emphasize happiness and satisfaction with life. Health-related problems are known to cause lower QOL. However, the neural mechanisms underlying individual differences in QOL measured by questionnaire (QOLMQ) in young healthy subjects are unknown. QOL is essential to our well-being, and investigation of the neural mechanisms underlying QOL in uncompromised subjects is obviously of great scientific and social interest. We used vox… Show more

“…One was an inquiry relating to family annual income as reported in our previous study (Taki et al, 2010;Takeuchi et al, 2014). Annual income data were collected using discrete variables: 1, annual income ϽUS $20,000 (the currency exchange rate was set at US $1 ϭ 100 yen); 2, annual income US $20,000 -$40,000; 3, annual income US $40,000 -$60,000; 4, annual income US $60,000 -$80,000; 5, annual income US $80,000 -$100,000; 6, annual income US $100,000 -$120,000; 7, annual income ՆUS $120,000.…”

“…Takeuchi et al [62], who used working memory training with mental calculation, published their findings in PLoS One. publications [38,45,47,[62][63][64][65][66][67] were eligible for the current review ( Figure 1). We present details of these interventions in short descriptions.…”

“…The score of item 6 (care-provider blinded) was low among the included studies because no care providers were involved in six studies that used PC-based training programs or video games [38,45,47,[62][63][64]. The score of item 11 (adequate description of the control/comparison group) was also low because of the use of a passive control or a waiting list control group [38,[63][64][65][66][67]. Four studies [38,[62][63][64] investigated changes of brain structure or neural mechanisms though cognitive training.…”
