Anatomical Description of the Bony Segments that Make Up the Skull of the Puma Concolor Species

Abstract: The Puma concolor is one of the largest carnivores present in Chile, although its size varies according to the geographical area in which it is found. It is increasingly common to find them outside their habitat and more in our environment. Its ecology, reproduction and nutritional aspects are known, but very little about its anatomy, which creates a challenge in the veterinary morphological area that needs strengthening. The present study consisted of an anatomical description of the skull of five adult… Show more

“…There is currently little scientific information on the anatomical characteristics of the pudu species (Morales-Muñoz et al, 2020). Therefore, it is necessary to generate novel scientific studies providing specific morphological knowledge of this species, thereby equally contributing in reducing its threat and vulnerability (Sánchez et al, 2017;Saldivia & Villegas, 2019). Consequently, the objective of the present study is to describe the extrinsic muscles of the thoracic limb of a specimen of pudu (Pudu puda).…”

“…El puma (Puma concolor) es un mamífero que pertenece al orden de los carnívoros y a la familia de los felinos (Saldivia et al, 2021). Este felino es el carnívoro terrestre más grande que vive en Chile, aunque su tamaño y peso varían según la subespecie y zonas geográficas que habita (Cabrera, 2015).…”
