“…14 Contrast enhanced CT scans of schwannoma usually demonstrate homogenous mass if lesion is small but if lesion is large with cystic or necrotic changes then heterogenous mass is demonstrated, arising from extrapulmonary site. 9,11 The CT scan of our patient also showed similar heterogenous mass, however mass is reported to present in left lung but operative findings demonstrated mass to arise from chest wall.…”

“…14 Microscopic histological examination revealed the proliferation of Schwan cells with spindle wavy nuclei and pointed ends, with 2 growth patterns identified: Antony A (hypercellular, with nuclei foci arranged like palisades called verocay bodies) and Antony B (hypocellular, loosely arranged). 15 Subsequent immunohistochemical analysis with S-100 protein further aid in the definite diagnosis. 16 The treatment for all benign neurogenic tumors is surgical resection, except for neuroblastoma.…”

“…In our case, the schwannoma was found to originate from the posterior mediastinum, unlike in existing literature. Pleural effusions associated with schwannomas are either reactionary to the presence of the tumor or hemorrhagic because of the rupture of the tumor [ 8 ]. The effusion in our case was most likely reactionary as evidenced by the resolution of the recurrent effusions after tumor resection.…”
