Abstract

Although anger has frequently been examined among employees in high-risk occupations, the lack of a standardized measure of anger makes examining its prevalence difficult.• Anger is associated with a number of dysfunctional outcomes, but the expression of anger can be adaptive when addressing sources of injustice in the workplace.• Anger is a frequent consequence of exposure to traumatic events among employees in high-risk occupations and is intensified through hostile appraisals of threatening stimuli.• The experience of anger problems is associated with certain secondary problems for employees through negative effects of different areas of mental function.(continues)
