“…Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) J. Nakano and others Exp Physiol 94.9 pp 1005-1015 functions as an activator and as a mediator of skeletal muscle hypertrophy (Mitchell et al 1999). Additionally, these growth factors accelerate the differentiation and proliferation of satellite cells and induce angiogenesis in muscle (re)growth (Smith et al 1999;Efthimiadou et al 2006). Angiogenesis is strongly correlated with muscle (re)growth (Hudlická et al 1992;.…”

“…Efthimiadou et al showed that the administration of bFGF to injured muscle increased angiogenesis and regenerated muscle. 26 The bFGF induces the migration of several inflammatory cells to the administration site, with angiogenesis, nerve regeneration, and muscle reconstruction. 27,28 In wound healing, bFGF induces angiogenesis in the early phase of reconstruction.…”

“…We speculate that bFGF was effective for ATFV because bFGF has been reported to induce satellite cell propagation 20 and vascularization in the skeletal muscle. 21 Moreover, muscle regeneration is related to vessel increases around the damaged muscle, 22 which led to the idea that addition of bFGF to autologous fascia implantation would be effective.…”
