Angioleiomioma de cavidade nasal: relato de um caso e revisão de literatura

Abstract: Li omyomas of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are rare. They make up less than 1% of all leiomyomas in the human body. This is due to the paucity of smooth muscle in the nose. They are classified in three groups: leiomyoma, angiomyoma and epithelioid leiomyoma. Only 15 cases of vascular leiomyomas have been found in the literature. The treatment of choice is surgical excision. Hereby we present a new case and review the literature.

“…In the present case, neoplastic cells of smooth muscle origin were closely associated with veins in a pattern reminiscent of a case of nasopharyngeal angioleiomyoma in a dog (Carpenter & Hamilton 1995). Myxoid stroma is otherwise a feature reported in human nasal angioleiomyoma (Campelo et al 2008). These histological features suggest a vascular smooth muscle origin for the tumour.…”

“…He most frequent treatment for nasal septum angioleiomyoma is endoscopic resection with macroscopic margin, and this was the treatment option for this case - excision with macroscopic and microscopic free margins. Vascular leiomyomas are bundles of smooth muscle cells, relatively organized, and permeated by thick wall vessels 4 .…”
