Angiomyofibroblastoma-Like Tumor of the Inguinal Canal

Abstract

A 19-year-old male patient sought outpatient medical care with a history of bulging in the inguinal region that had been growing for 3 months. The patient said that he had not had any pain or fever. Physical examination showed that the nodule had a hardened consistency and was mobile. Complementary examinations to elucidate the diagnosis were requested (sonography, magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], and excision with anatomopathologic evaluation of the specimen).Sonography of the scrotal sac showed a solid nodule at the level of the right spermatic canal with well-defined limits and a heterogeneous echo texture (Figure 1). The nodule measured around 2.8 cm and showed minimal flow on color Doppler imaging. A minimal varicocele was also observed in the left pampiniform plexus. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a solid nodule in the right inguinal canal with an intermediate signal in all sequences, and this nodule was surrounded by a cystic capsule. Both the solid and cystic portions showed heterogeneous highlighting from the contrast. No pelvic lymph nodes or other signs of malignancy were observed (Figures 2 and 3).
