Angiomyofibroblastoma-Like Tumor of the Inguinal Canal

Abstract: A 19-year-old male patient sought outpatient medical care with a history of bulging in the inguinal region that had been growing for 3 months. The patient said that he had not had any pain or fever. Physical examination showed that the nodule had a hardened consistency and was mobile. Complementary examinations to elucidate the diagnosis were requested (sonography, magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], and excision with anatomopathologic evaluation of the specimen).Sonography of the scrotal sac showed a solid nodu… Show more

“…Tumor cells are spindle cells, with almost no mitotic activity or atypia. Immunohistochemical analysis shows that the cells are usually positive for CD-34 and desmin, with strong reactions to vimentin, muscle-specific actin, progesterone receptors, and estrogen receptors (5,7) .…”

“…On sonography, AMF-like tumors have been previously reported as having a heterogeneous echotexture and minimal flow on color Doppler imaging (1,5) . In our case, the tumor was a well-circumscribed lesion that was isoechoic and minimally non-homogeneous compared to the testis, with color Doppler flow equal to the flow seen in the testes.…”

“…Angiomyofibroblastoma is a soft tissue neoplasm of mesenchymal group and most commonly affects the lower genital tracts of young women [1][2][3]. Rarely, this tumor affects inguinal and scrotal region in males and retroperitoneal region [1,2,4,5]. The diagnosis of is based on specific histological features of spindle to epithelioid shape tumor cells and immuno-histochemical staining of desmin, CD68, ER was strongly positivity.…”
