Angiopoietin-2, its soluble receptor Tie-2 and subclinical cardiovascular disease in a population-based sample

Abstract: Circulating Ang-2 levels were associated with select subclinical cardiovascular disease traits, consistent with the notion that the Ang-2-pathway plays a role in mediating cardiovascular morbidity.

“…investigated the correlation between Angpt2 and the index of cardiac function impairment and showed that Angpt2 level was significantly correlated with the severity of congestive heart failure18. The study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP) that included 3204 normal subjects with a median age of 55 years to evaluate the relationship between Ang-2 and cardiac function revealed that high circulating Angpt2 level was associated with low LVFS value as a measure of LV systolic function, but not with LVMI as a measure of LV structure19. However, the information between Angpt2 and associated markers of angiogenesis and actual cardiac structure and function status is limited in CKD population.…”

“…In addition, serum Angpt2 levels has been correlated with subclinical cardiovascular diseases such as fractional shortening, number of carotid plaques [21] and carotid intima media thickness [22]. In our previous reports, we found that CKD patients with high serum Angpt2 levels were more likely to have high brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, high left ventricular mass index and left ventricular hypertrophy [23].…”

“…In contrast, in our study, we considered the changes of Ang-2, which take into account the baseline value for each individual patient. It is especially important, since patients with cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease or hypertension are more likely to have higher circulating Ang-2 levels [26–28]. However, based on our data absolute values and the kinetics of change are individual specific.…”
