Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese Ameliorates LPS-Induced Acute Lung Injury via Src Inhibition

Abstract: Growing demand for treatment options against acute lung injury (ALI) emphasizes studies on plant extracts harboring anti-inflammatory effects. According to GC-MS analysis, Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese consists of various flavonoids with anti-inflammatory activities. Thus, in this study, the anti-inflammatory effects of an extract of Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese (Ac-EE) were assessed using RAW264.6 murine macrophages and a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI model. Ac-EE reduced the nitric ox… Show more

“…GC/MS analysis of Ca-EE was performed with an Agilent 8890 GC instrument (Santa Clara, CA, USA) equipped with an Agilent J&W DB-624 Ultra Insert GC column (60 m in length × 250 μm in diameter × 1.40 μm in thickness); mass spectrometry was conducted with an Agilent 5977B MSD instrument (Santa Clara, CA, USA), equipped with a Series II triple-axis detector with a high-energy dynode and long-life electron multiplier, from the Cooperative Center for Research Facilities of Sungkyunkwan University (Gyeonggi-do, Korea). The spectrum of phytochemicals in the National Institute of Standards and Technology library was used to identify the unknown phytochemicals in Ca-EE, as reported previously [ 62 , 63 ].…”

“…Pulmonary inflammation accumulates neutrophils and macrophages in the alveolar space, interrupting gas exchange [ 114 ]. The TNF-α-induced necrosis of alveolar epithelial cells also results in pulmonary edema via the release of cellular fluid into the airway [ 115 , 116 ]. Moreover, it has been known that individuals with asthma or COPD exhibit the sustained activation of NF-κB signaling in the lung epithelium [ 117 ].…”

“…For instance, the Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transduction and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway is related to T-cell differentiation and B-cell class switching by receiving signals from both type I and type II cytokines [ 66 ]. Meanwhile, the NF-κB and MAPK pathways can be activated by phosphorylation and translocation of NF-κB and AP-1 subunits, respectively [ 67 , 68 ]. Both transcription factors upregulate pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), IL-6, COX-2, and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) [ 69 , 70 , 71 ].…”
