Animating a neighborhood: The enchanting placemaking of Le Grand Éléphant de Nantes

Abstract: At the end of an industrial era in which Nantes was the busiest shipping and slave-trading port in France, a giant, mechanical elephant became an animating force in the city's reanimation of the neighborhood left behind.
