Ankle-Brachial index by oscillometry: A very useful method to assess peripheral arterial disease in diabetes

Abstract: Background:Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) remains the least recognized form of atherosclerosis. The Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) has emerged as one of the potent markers of diffuse atherosclerosis, cardiovascular (CV) risk, and overall survival in general public, especially in diabetics. Premanath and Raghunath found a sensitivity of 70% and a specificity of 75% using another Omron blood pressure device (HEM-7051-C) with diabetic patients [9].
