Annual report to the nation on the status of cancer, part I: National cancer statistics

Abstract: System. Trends in incidence and death rates for all cancers combined and for the leading cancer types by sex, racial/ethnic group, and age were estimated by joinpoint analysis and characterized by the average annual percent change during the most recent 5 years (2012-2016 for incidence and 2013-2017 for mortality). RESULTS: Overall, cancer incidence rates decreased 0.6% on average per year during 2012 through 2016, but trends differed by sex, racial/ ethnic group, and cancer type. Among males, cancer incidence… Show more

“…4 5 In the US, the age standardized incidence rate was higher than the global rate at 7.1 per 100 000 people in 2016, 6 and incident rates have gradually increased, which is consistent with the global trend. 7 The prevalence of this cancer has also increased, given that the median overall survival for patients has doubled in the past decade. 8 9 for sustained disease control with an immune mediated graft versus myeloma effect by establishing donor chimerism.…”

“…Among the differentially expressed proteins, TAGL was chosen for further validation, since it is among the top ten modulated proteins, and because four different protein species, collectively down-regulated in colon cancer tissues, were identified in our proteomic investigation. Figure 4A shows gel windows of 2D-gels of CCT and NAT, where the four TAGL protein species are indicated by numbers (1)(2)(3)(4), starting from the most acidic one. Two TAGL protein species display a molecular weight (MW) of about 23 kDa, representing the closest expected value of the native protein, while the others display a lower MW, (ca.…”

“…Colorectal cancer (CRC) is an aggressive type of tumor and a leading cause of cancer death worldwide [1]. CRC is considered a multifactorial disease: an important role is attributed to the impact of environmental factors on a genetically prone background [2].…”

“…According to 2012 estimations, the number of patients diagnosed annually with non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) approaches 3.3 million, representing a 50% increase from 2006 [2,3]. The 2020 Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer reveals an annual incidence of melanoma of 28.5 per 100,000 persons for men and 17.6 per 100,000 for women, which translates to a respective 5-year average annual percent change of 2.2% and 1.9% [4]. The WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer reports an age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) of all skin cancers at 68.1 per 100,000 persons in the USA.…”
