The voltammetric behavior of a series of thiopurines [including 6-mercaptopurine (6MP), 2-mercaptopurine (2MP), 6-mercaptoguanine (6MG), 2-thioxanthine (2TX), and 6-thioxanthine (6TX)] at a silver electrode modi®ed in situ with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) is described. Thiopurines can be anodically accumulated at a silver surface as sparingly soluble silver salts; when the potential is made more negative the insoluble compounds are stripped cathodically yielding current peaks at about À1.25 V (vs. AgaAgCl). In the presence of CTAB the accumulation of thiopurines is greatly improved and the stripping peaks are enhanced; in addition, the randomness of the stripping process is reduced and the stripping-peak width is decreased. The role of CTAB in the electrochemical mechanism is discussed. Additionally, it was found that when CTAB was present 2TX and 2MP gave sharper and higher peaks than did 6MP, 6TX, or 6MG, because of the difference in their accumulation and stripping ef®ciencies. Analyses of these thiopurines by cathodic stripping voltammetry (CSV) have been developed. Linearity between the current and concentration exists for a range of 10 À7 to 10 À6 M thiopurines. The detection limits (san 3) are 0.05 to 0.1 mM after a accumulation time of 8 min. The procedure can be used in both neutral and basic solutions.

carbon paste electrodes modified with humic acids have been used for studying the behavior of metals in aqueous solutions. Many parameters influence the performance of the electrodes, such as the humic acid ratio, the nature of the humic acid, the accumulation time, the pH, the scan rate, and the preparation of the electrodes itself. There are various methos of preparing the electrodes. The goal of this paper is to review some of them. The advantages of using electrodes modified with humic acids as electrochemical sensors for evaluating metals in aqueous solution are stressed.Keywords: humic acid; modified electrode; metals.
