High field superconducting materials need strong nonsuperconducting components as a reinforcement. For instance, cable-in-conduit-conductor technology for superconducting magnets needs strong conduit materials. High-temperature tape conductors require high-strength substrates. These technologies require consideration of special fabrication parameters for superconductor manufacturing. This paper reviews some of our recent work on stainless steel 316LN and outlines some parameters of two Ni alloys. Various fabrication conditions for superconducting materials are considered. Selected conditions are simulated with these alloys. Both mechanical properties and microstructure are reported. The potential applications of such materials in high field superconducting magnet applications are discussed.
