Anomalous temperature dependence of near‐infrared photoluminescence band in neutron‐irradiated α‐Al2O3

Abstract: Phone: þ86 10 8823 5971The properties of near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) spectra in a range of 0.8-2.8 mm in fast neutron-irradiated a-Al 2 O 3 are reported. Anomalous temperature dependence of NIR PL spectra was observed in neutron-irradiated a-Al 2 O 3 for the first time. Highest PL intensity was measured at 260 K whereas the intensity at low temperatures below 220 K decreased significantly. Phonon-assisted indirect radiative recombination may be responsible for PL intensity enhancement at near ro… Show more

“…Laser-based NIR spectroscopy is a non-destructive technique to measure defect and impurity related luminescence. Previously, we have investigated neutron-irradiation induced near-infrared luminescence in α-Al 2 O 3 [30,31]. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is almost no information on irradiation-induced near-infrared luminescence in spinel single crystal.…”
