On étudie les spectres de décharge et de phosphorescence de l'azote dilué dans l'hélium. Sous une faible pression partielle de N2 on trouve, en phosphorescence, un spectre remarquable de N+2 composé presque exclusivement du premier système négatif et rappelant le spectre auroral observé aux basses latitudes. Une expérience a été tentée dans le but de rechercher si l'autoabsorption de la molécule ionisée N +2 modifie la température apparente de vibration du système B2Σ+u→ X2Σ+ g. Le résultat est négatif. D'intéressantes variations d'intensité relative des systèmes interdits de Lyman et de Vegard-Kaplan ont été constatées dans l'ultraviolet proche. Les modifications observées dans la répartition d'intensité des divers systèmes de la molécule neutre, lorsque le mécanisme d'excitation varie, montrent, à nouveau, que les théories de l'azote actif et du ciel nocturne, basées sur l'émission par descente en cascade, doivent être appliquées avec précaution

The emission bands of the NO molecule excited in an impure afterglow were studied in the vacuum ultraviolet region. The abrupt cutoff at a certain v' value was observed in the {j, 'Y, and Il bands and also the nonappearance of the E, and {j' bands was confirmed. An explanation for these observations was attempted in connection with the dissociation energy of the NO molecule and with the mechanism of the afterglow. 10 Y. Tanaka, J. Sci. Research Inst.
