The aim of this article is to explore the role of cognitive styles and intrapreneurship in health professionals’ innovation outputs, as well the mediated effect of intrapreneurship between cognitive styles and innovation output. This study used the survey method of data collection, through a self-administered questionnaire. Partial least square structural equation modelling method was used to analyse the result of the sample of 209 professionals of primary health care providers in Northern Portugal. Our findings reveal that cognitive style plays a significant role in intrapreneurship and innovation outputs, which are mediated by intrapreneurship. In particular, health care professionals with the rational cognitive style are likely to be more of a intrapreneur and innovative as compared to those with a intuitive cognitive style. Promoting intrapreneurship is crucial for successful innovation outputs. This study reveals that an understanding of the cognitive style of the health care professionals can help managers allocate appropriate individuals to different healthcare tasks. Our primary contribution to theory has been to highlight the importance of cognitive styles in intrapreneurship and innovation within the context of primary health care organizations.

Facing the dynamics of the current competitive conditions involves the identification of phenomena related to the company's development or intrapreneurship. With the purpose of contributing to a generation of theory in this regard, this research identifies some environmental and organizational factors related to the intraprenurial behavior in the software industry in México, through the use of qualitative research techniques investigation with strict attachment to the Grounded Theory. Results suggest the consideration of constructs set forth in the literature, as well as other proposed by the research subjects, such as government support, competitiveness in the field, and individual elements like skills or worker's creative talent, their commitment towards the company, the degree of risk aversion and their disposition for teamwork.Resumo: Enfrentar a dinâmica das condições competitivas atuais envolve a identificação de fenômenos relacionados ao desenvolvimento da empresa ou intra-empreendedorismo. Com o propósito de contribuir para uma geração de teoria a esse respeito, esta pesquisa identifica alguns fatores ambientais e organizacionais relacionados ao comportamento intraprenurial na indústria de software no México, por meio do uso de técnicas de pesquisa qualitativa com rigorosa vinculação à Grounded Theory. Os resultados sugerem a consideração de construtos estabelecidos na literatura, bem como outros propostos pelos sujeitos da pesquisa, como apoio do governo, competitividade no campo e elementos individuais como habilidades ou talentos criativos do trabalhador, seu comprometimento com a empresa, o grau de aversão ao risco e sua disposição para o trabalho em equipe. Se reconoce en la literatura que un camino legítimo para garantizar el crecimiento y desarrollo de la empresa es el intraemprendimiento. En este sentido se identificó la necesidad de una comprensión profunda de las condiciones que generan el fenómeno en entornos considerados hostiles, a fin de determinar factores que fomenten o inhiban tal comportamiento. Para lograr lo anterior, se planteó un método de investigación cualitativo, de diseño no experimental y alcance exploratorio, cuyo diseño de campo consistió en el análisis documental y en la aplicación, transcripción, codificación y análisis de 11 entrevistas realizadas a personas altamente relacionadas al fenómeno intraemprendedor de algunas ciudades del norte, centro y sur del estado de Tamaulipas, México. El método empleado permitió el reconocimiento de factores subyacentes que detonan, potencializan o inhiben el intraemprendimiento, algunos de los cuales, han sido poca o nulamente abordados en investigaciones previas, tales como la influencia de apoyos gubernamentales, cuestiones referentes a la percepción de los altos mandos en materia de seguridad y factores del comportamiento de los mandos inferiores.
