Anterior Maxillary Intrusion and Retraction with Corticotomy-Facilitated Orthodontic Treatment and Burstone Three Piece Intrusive Arch

Abstract: An adult patient with proclination and spacing was performed orthodontic treatment combined with corticotomy and the burstone three piece intrusive arch who desired a shortened treatment period. The patient had Angle's Class I malocclusion with flaring of the maxillary and mandibular incisors. Pre adjusted edgewise appliance (MBT prescription) was fixed to the maxillary and mandibular teeth. Then corticotomy was performed on the cortical bone of the buccal sides in the maxillary anterior regions. Intrusion and… Show more

“…RAP is a cascade of physiological events leading to increased bone turnover accompanied by demineralization and the formation of a new bone at the site of injury [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]. Due to this phenomenon, when orthodontic force is applied, not only the tooth but also the adjacent demineralized bone matrix is displaced, which potentially reduces the risk of bone dehiscence and the subsequent gingival recession [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ]. It should be remembered that bone apposition is also stimulated by properly performed orthodontic treatment [ 23 ].…”

“…De Almeida et al (12) (2018) menciona que las reabsorciones radiculares se pueden minimizar si se utilizan fuerzas ideales y constantes considerando las características individuales del paciente y con el seguimiento continuo durante la fase de intrusión. En la actualidad se utilizan los mini-implantes, y también la corticotomía (25,27), como alternativa para producir menos efectos secundarios.…”
