“…AHR in small ruminants has been reported in various regions of world: Argentina (EDDI et al, 1996); Uruguai (NARI et al, 1996;BONINO & MEDEROS, 2003), Paraguai (MACIEL et al, 1996); South Africa ( VAN WYK et al, 1997); Mexico (TORRES-ACOSTA et al, 2003); Australia (SUTER et al, 2004;PLAYFORD et al, 2014) (ZANZANI et al, 2014);Ireland (KEANE et al, 2014); France, Greece and Italy (GEURDEN et al, 2014). The countries with the largest number of cross-sectional studies over time are New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Brazil (FALZON et al, 2014).…”

“…BZ resistance is widely distributed in meat and dairy sheep industries in France as it has been demonstrated in the western (Hubert et al 1991;Chartier et al 1998), southwestern (Geurden et al 2014), and southeastern parts (Beugnet 1992) of the country. Recently, a macrocyclic lactone resistance has been demonstrated for the first time in a meat sheep farm from mainland France (Paraud et al 2016) where T. circumcincta was the IVM-and MOX-resistant species.…”

“…In almost all sheep markets in Europe, AR to benzimidazoles (BZ) has been described (Papadopoulos et al 2012); however, ivermectin (IVM) and moxidectin (MOX) resistances are still less frequent in Europe than in the southern hemisphere with the noticeable exception of the UK (Bartley et al 2006) and Ireland (Keane et al 2014). BZ resistance has been frequently described in mainland France (Chartier et al 1998;Geurden et al 2014). The first case of cross-resistance to moxidectin and ivermectin has been detected recently on a meat sheep farm in France (Paraud et al 2016), but limited studies have addressed the issue of IVM resistance in this country.…”

“…However, anthelmintic resistance of GINs is an expanding problem and is of major concern in many countries (Kaplan 2004;Sutherland and Leathwick 2011;Kaplan and Vidyashankar 2012;Torres-Acosta et al, 2012a;Geurden et al, 2014). Additionally, anthelmintic resistance is an increasing problem not only in small ruminants (Kaplan 2004;Kaplan and Vidyashankar 2012) but in cattle (Sutherland and Leathwick 2011;Cotter et al, 2015) and horses (Matthews 2014;Nielsen et al, 2014).…”

“…Since the first case of resistance was observed in the early 1960s, resistance of GINs to the three groups of anthelmintics (benzimidazoles, nicotinic agonists, and macrolytic lactones) has become prevalent all over the world (Kaplan 2004;Wolstenholme et al, 2004;Fleming et al, 2006;Kaplan and Vidyashankar 2012;Cotter et al, 2015). Additionally, multiple resistance in single nematode strains also is of concern (Taylor et al, 2009;Papadopoulos et al, 2012;Torres-Acosta et al, 2012a;Geurden et al, 2014). However, the levels of resistance of GINs against anthelmintics may differ between areas (Kaplan and Vidyashankar 2012;Papadopoulos et al, 2012;Torres-Acosta et al, 2012a).…”
