Anthropometric Database of the Preschool Children from 2 to 6 Years in Taiwan

Abstract: Anthropometry is important in product or environment designs based on humanfactors. Specific anthropometric databases should be established for certain ofpopulations, especially for different genders, ages and races. In this study, 5772preschool children (from two to six years old) were recruited. An electromagneticmotion analysis system, measuring tape, an electronic scale and electronic caliperswere used to measure the basic data, structural and postural dimensions. Differencesin stature and weights were fou… Show more

“…The BEAR PAW’s design and development was inspired by the HANDi Hand and was sized to 50th percentile 8-year-old male and female anthropometric hand data ( Figure 5 ) ( Snyder et al, 1977 ; Brenneis et al, 2017 ; Cheng et al, 2019 ). Similar to the HANDi Hand the BEAR PAW is accessible to researchers and clinicians, and provides open source 3D printable files, a bill of materials, assembly instructions, microcontroller code, and GUI which can be found via https://github.com/BEAR-Labs/BEAR-PAW .…”

“…Analysis of the effect size showed only a small effect size for sex. The values of anthropological parameters of younger school age were presented in other countries, e.g., from Africa (Nigeria) [17,18]; from South America (Brazil) [38,40]; from Taiwan [11]; from India [31,57]; from Malaysia [9]; from Ireland [42]; from Japan [29,30,39]; and from Turkey [27].…”

“…During the ontogeny of an individual, changes in body structure occur depending on sex, populations, and ethnic groups [1,3,4,5,8,18,20,24,38,40,44,45,46,48,50,52,56]. Therefore, reference charts are necessary for pediatric monitoring of child growth and development [9,11,29,30]. Based on anthropometric measurements, monitoring and evaluation of healthy development and performance of children in the Czech Republic and Slovakia were also carried out [7, 12, 25 35].…”

“…Many countries around the world conduct anthropometric research into the development and updating of national sizing systems most commonly used to design clothing, including functional clothing and workplaces in the professional field. I. Fang Cheng and his team [7] report that currently (data as of 2018) there are about 90 large anthropometric databases. The first atlas of human measures was compiled in 1981, and then updated and published in the United States in 1994 by Dr. Farkas -"Anthropometry of the head and face in medicine" [8].…”

“…The participants were assigned to three body height groups defined by the 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles, for males and females separately. The percentile groups were determined on the basis of analysis of data from an atlas of human measures [6] and literature data [7,8]. In addition, height groups based on percentile classification were assigned to the size data advertised by the manufacturers of protective clothing.…”
