Anti‐Arrhythmic Effects of Linalool via Cx43 Expression in a Rat Model of Myocardial Infarction

Abstract: Background: Lavender is a traditional therapy for different heart symptoms including palpitation, which comprises an important symptom of cardiac arrhythmias. This experiment was designed to evaluate the antiarrhythmic effects of linalool using an experimental model of arrhythmia following myocardial infarction in rats. The underlying electrophysiological mechanism through cardiac connexin 43 (Cx43) expression was also investigated. Methods: Fifty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five equal groups. T… Show more

“…Resultados similares foram observados com o LIN nas doses de 50 mg/Kg ou 100 mg/kg 47 . Além disso, o LIN (50 mg/Kg ou 100 mg/Kg) foi capaz de diminuir a incidência de arritmias neste modelo 45 . Ao avaliar a morte celular de cardiomiócitos no modelo de isquemia/reperfusão, o tratamento com LIN promoveu diminuição da necrose e apoptose celular 43 .…”

“…Linalool is a natural monoterpene extracted from aromatic plant-derived essential oils. Cardioprotective effects of Linalool against I/R injury have been found in several experimental studies (80,81). Ke et al (81) found that pretreatment of rats with linalool (50 or 100 mg.kg −1 .day −1 ) for 7 days before LAD occlusion significantly decreased the prevalence, duration, and severity score of ventricular arrhythmias.…”

Ke et al (81) found that pretreatment of rats with linalool (50 or 100 mg.kg −1 .day −1 ) for 7 days before LAD occlusion significantly decreased the prevalence, duration, and severity score of ventricular arrhythmias. Through molecular analysis, they proved the preventive effect of linalool against Cx43 degradation occurred by ischemic injury, which may be an underlying mechanism for the observed antiarrhythmic effects.…”

“…Furthermore, linalool is a main component of rose ( Rosa spp. ), basil ( Ocimum basilicum ), neroli oil ( Citrus aurantium ) [ 101 ] and found in both green and black tea. Linalool has been implicated in aroma and flavoring [ 102 ].…”
