“…Cell death has two types, namely apoptotic and necrotic cell death. These two types differ morphologically and biochemically [8][9][10][11] . Accidental cell death is regarded as necrotic and could result from extrinsic insults to the cell such as osmotic, thermal, toxic and traumatic effects [11][12][13] .…”

“…G. kola seeds contain biflavonoid possessing antiinflammatory properties [4] and are a natural antioxidant [1][2][3][4] . Constituents of the seed of G. kola include [1][2][3][8][9][10][11] benzophenones, Garcinia biflavonones (GB-1, GB-2) and kola flavonone [2,3] . Apigenin based flavonoids represent 60% of the total flavonoids present in the diethyl ether fraction of G. kola seed [4] .…”

“…Isolated green tea catechins such as EGCG have already been shown to be inhibitors of collagenase and elastase. In comparison the white tea exhibits significantly higher anti elastase and anti collagenase activities [13]. Recent studies have evaluated that EGCG exhibits profound inhibitory activity on collagenases that degrade the organic matrix during erosion [14,15].…”

“…This assay was performed with a modified method (Thring, Hili & Naughton, 2009) using microcuvettes (50 µL). A mixture of 22.5 µL of 50 mM Tricine buffer (pH 7.5) containing 400 mM NaCl, 10 mM CaCl 2 , 25.0 µL of 1.875 -120 mM NA solution and 12.5 µL of collagenase (Chostridum histolytium, 8.0 unit/mL) was put into microcuvette.…”
