Anti-Corrosive Properties of an Effective Guar Gum Grafted 2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropanesulfonic Acid (GG-AMPS) Coating on Copper in a 3.5% NaCl Solution

Abstract: Guar gum grafted 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (GG-AMPS) was synthesized using guar gum and AMPS as the base ingredients. The corrosion inhibition of copper was studied using weight loss, electrochemical, and surface characterization methods in a 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. Studies including weight loss were done at different acid concentrations, different inhibitor concentrations, different temperatures, and different immersion times. The weight loss studies showed the good performance o… Show more

“…By grafting monomer onto the hydrogel's surface, copper nanoparticles alter its surface. The crosslinking process, which establishes covalent connections between nanoparticles and polymeric chains, imparts a granular texture to the surface of AMPS(PHE-Ce)/MC-Cu, characterized by small pores or fissures [ 49 , 50 ] which improves the hydrogel's ability to draw in and effectively eliminate dyes.

“…Finally, there was an optimal TiO 2 -NiO ratio (99:1) in the electrode for increasing the DSSC device efficiency and electron transport. Singh et al [16] synthesized guar gum-grafted 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (GG-AMPS) using guar gum and AMPS as the base ingredients. This material was used as a coating on copper to examine its ability to inhibit copper corrosion.…”

“…The study improved it to 96.8% by adding 5 Mm potassium iodide (KI) to a lower GG-MMA concentration of 300 mg L −1 [ 25 ]. The research group has also investigated the GG grafted with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid and displayed 95% anti-corrosion efficiency of copper at 600 mg L −1 in 3.5 wt% NaCl electrolyte at 35 °C [ 26 ]. The outstanding performance of two chitosan derivatives in CO 2 -saturated 3.5 wt% NaCl was elucidated by Cui et al [ 20 ], reaching 91 and 93% inhibition efficiencies for corrosion of P110 steel at 100 ppm concentration at 80 °C.…”
