Anti Herpes simplex-1 Activity of A Standard Extract of Zataria multiflora Boiss

Abstract: In Rosmarinic Acid (RA) is a phenolic acid which has many biological activities such as antioxidant, anti inflammatory and anti viral effects. In the present study, we have studied the anti Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) effect of methanolic extract of Zataria multiflora which has been standardized on the basis of RA content. Methanolic extract of Zatria multiflora was prepared by maceration method. RA content of plant extract was measured by spectrophotometry method using the calibration curve of RA. Maximum n… Show more

“…The pain-free interval after primary discectomy should be more than 6 months (1) . Various risk factors for recurrent herniation have been identified, patient factors and surgical factors (2) . The symptoms and signs of patients with RLDH were not different from those with primary disc prolapse and the typical sciatic pain was often the predominant complaint of the patients.…”

“…Antiviral activity of Z. multiflora extracts was also reported against Herpes simplex type 1 virus at concentrations of 800 and 1000 µg/mL by Arabzadeh et al (35). Since Z. multiflora increased IFN-γ, decreased IL-4, and enhanced the ratio of IFN-γ to IL-4 (Th1/Th2 balance), it may have a therapeutic value in inflammatory responses such as allergies, autoimmunity and infectious diseases associated with Th1/Th2 imbalance (36).…”

“…In a study, 28% of patients experienced pain in feet and back, 12 years after operation (15) which ultimately led to pain, disability and reoperation (16). The findings of previous studies show that the symptoms, severity and disability level in recurrent LDH and primary LDH are very similar (17) and the total rate of repeated operations in these patients have been reported to be 5.2-12% (9, 10).…”
